David Pelfrey gives his take on the assumption that you’re a criminal while exiting a store with goods that you’ve already paid for. Apparently, the modus operandi is to pay for items, then while leaving another person apparently checks your receipt for errors and scribbles on it to prevent you shoplifting later on (presumably, the same items). David decides to make a stand against the assumption that he’s a criminal at Wal-Mart or CostCo.

What a git!
If you don’t like store policies, don’t shop at that store. Taking it out on low-wage workers just shows that he’s a pompous git.
Well, this is Wal-Mart. Have you ever tried to buy anything in USA lately? I got the same treatment from every single large store I went to (Wal-Mart, Fry’s Electronics). What he’s complaining about is the assumption you’re a criminal out to “stiff it to the man” rather than a paying customer. It’s not the workers he’s railing against, it’s the upper and middle management who make dumb store policies.
He talks about buying at these massive stores because of “the selection and savings”. Well, that comes at the cost of crap service. I’m guessing he’s not so destitute that he couldn’t buy from another store that costs a little more, but has more friendly policies. So why not do that?
I can’t stand people who bitch about the demise of small friendly stores and the rise of large faceless retailers, but then still make price the primary discerning factor in where they decide to shop. It’s because of these people that Walmart has such a grip on the retail market in the USA.
He clearly takes great joy in confronting workers and being the centre of attention for onlookers. Upper and middle management aren’t on the receiving end of his snide pseudo-witticisms, low-paid workers are. If he wants to bother the corporation, why not take his business elsewhere and encourage others to do so as well; losing sales is the only sort of criticism corporations take seriously.
