Engadget: 3DConnexion announces SpaceNavigator

Engadget gets the lowdown on the new super low cost 6DOF controller from 3DConnexion called the SpaceNavigator. Basically, it’s a device that sits on your desk and you can pull, push, twist and tilt to get all 6 dimensions of freedom. I’ve used the SpaceOrb 360 before, so it’s probably similar with about half a centimeter of play. The good news is that it’s cheap at $59 US compared to the astronomical $199 for the earlier version (the SpaceTraveller) or $399 or $299 for the SpacePilot or SpaceExplorer respectively.

I tried purchasing the SpaceNavigator and unfortunately the US website won’t sell it to Australia. I contacted 3dConnexion and they had the Australian distributor contact me. They are selling it at 3 times the price it is in the US. AUD$212 (approx USD$166) is rediculous!

Yeah, I tried to get a SpacePilot earlier and it was just insane the amount of markup there was from the Australian distributor. I’ll probably buy via Froogle and if need be route via my US postal address to get it outside of USA. If you’re interested let me know.

    Philip,

I’ve been doing the same hunting for the SpaceNavigator, and have been looking at options for getting a unit into Australia. If you’ve got a way, I’d be most interested.

OK leave it with me, I’ll see if a) I can get to be a reseller, in particular, personal/educational prices would be nice or b) group order from USA failing a. Looks like I can order direct w/o too much of a problem, but better in a group purchase to save on shipping if I do need to muck around relaying it outside USA.

When I’m close to figuring out what to do (probably a week or so) I’ll put a new post up asking for expressions of interest (I’ll probably be snagging a Novint Falcon soon too, if people are interested).
